Katharine Dixon 5/16/12
Katharine, from what I have read, no one knows the date of birth or death of James Nute, Sr., only that he died at 78 years of age.The "Genealogical Dictionary of Maine and New Hampshire" says that James Nute,Jr. was first mentioned in Dover in 1669, married Elizabeth Heard by 1675.Elizabeth married a second time to William Furber on 13-Aug-1694. James's inventory was filed 24-Oct-1691 by his widow Mary, John Knight and Samuel Heard bondsman. In parenthesis, it states (Mary-error) which I take it to mean that this name was wrong in that document - so Mary was actually Elizabeth Heard wife of James, Jr.If anyone disagrees with this source or assumption, please respond. I have to add that I have not seen any source stating that there was a James Nute killed by the Indians.I'd like to know where I can find this. Also, I'd like to know where I can find a copy of "Killed In His Garden by The Indians".This sounds like a very interesting reading. You are very fortunate to hold those manuscripts. Thanks for your reply!
