This all makes sense. My great grandfather was Joseph Nute who wrote the Nute Genealogy along with Percy. I have his original handwritten manuscript in which he wrote, "killed in his garden by Indians". Where did you locate information that it was James, Jr.?

New Hampshire Wills for James Nute Jr (1691) gives his widow as Mary. Who was this lady? Joseph gives the wife as Elizabeth Heard.
