As per my earlier message, Margaret Ladley married Floyd B. Nuss, ... Margaret's father was William, her mother was Elizabeth ("Lizzie"), and her grandfather was Peter Umhey who was born in Baden circa 1850.
Peter Umhey was born in Baden circa 1850.Baden, a central European state that became incorporated into a unified Germany during the late 1800's, was also the birthplace of Peter's parents. There is little known of Peter's earliest years except for the fact that he was a carpenter who probably lived somewhere in or near Armstrong County, Pennsylvania. His marriage to Elizabeth Cameron, a woman born in Prussia circa 1843 to Prussian born parents, resulted in the births of at least the following children:Elizabeth "Lizzie" (Laidley), John, Margaret "maggie (Myers), and Harry.
After the Umheys left Armstrong County, an event that occurred prior to 1880, they moved a few miles south to Allegheny County, Pennsylvania.Establishing their residence on Bigelow Street, and then moving to 116 Kaercher Street in Pittsburgh's 23rd Ward, the family prospered until 1901.In that year Peter Umhey became ill.His illness lasted for two days and then he died on April 1, 1901.The primary cause of his death was a cerebral hemorrhage complicated by an "oedenna of lungs."
The day after his death Elizabeth paid the $40 consideration for deed no. 479 and Peter Umhey was interred on April 3, 1901 at the E.E. Smithfield Cemetary located on South Dallas Street in Pittsburgh.A will filed in Allegheny County indicates that at the time of his death he left to his wife household goods valued at $650 and real estate valued at $4,850.His death notice of April 3, 1901 read as follws:Umhey - At the family residence, No. 116 Kaercher Street, Greenfield, on Monday, April 1, 1901 at 4:05 p.m. Peter Umhey, aged 52 years.Funeral services on Wednesday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock.Friends of the family are respectfully invited to attend.
Peter's wife Elizbeth oulived her husband by nearly thirty three years. On January 10, 1934, at the age of 92 and after having lived her last years in an "old folks home" she passed. Her death notice of January 10, 1934 read as follows:Umhey-At the German Protestant Home for the aged, Wednesday, January 10, 1934 at 5 a.m.Elizabeth Umhey in her 92nd year, widow of Peter Umhey, mother of John of Ligonier PA, Harry of Los Angeles, Cal.; Mrs. William Ladley; and Mrs. Margaret Myers of Pittsburgh. Remians at the Beinhauer Mortuary, 2630 West Liberty Avenue where services will be held Friday, January 12, at 2 p.m.Friends invited.
