No kids, unless you count a little Beagle pup…lol Tracing my Mother’s lineage backwards – I have read all the posts about the Nunn's in Henry County, and I don;t think that I have seen ANY of the names in my family listed ??? My mother’s name is Hazel Nunn, (Gaines) born 09/1921 in Henry, Va. (Henry County). She is still alive and living in Metro Atlanta, Ga. Her father (my maternal grandfather) – John Sampson Nunn Occupation – store keeper, builder, floor sander Born - 188? in Va. Died - 196? (Oceana / Hatcher WVa.) buried in Beckley WVa. She was daughter of John Wesley Carlisle and Sarah Richardson (Sarah’s parents are James Richardson and Rebecca Rawleigh(sp?)). Like I said, Linda Bates Carlisle comes from the Carlisle / Richardson Lineage (Missouri), and we can trace Carlisle’s directly back to Sussex County, Delaware and 1752. I know that my grandparents stayed in Missouri for awhile, know that she was a schoolteacher in Sedalia, Mo. while it was still Indian Territory, and I know that my grandfather did some work related to the building of the lake of the Ozarks. They also lived in Texas (had one son there in 1903), back to Oklahoma City (about 1905 – 1915) where my father was born in 1914, then they migrated to South Georgia, North and Central Florida, W. Palm Beach Fla., until they settled for good in Ft. Lauderdale (that had to be no later than the early-to-mid 1930’s as my dad went to Ft. Lauderdale HS, and began a 28 year career with USPS in 1941 as an adult. They had 4 Sons (John R (1902 – 1967) / William Carlisle (1905 – 1991) / Benjamin Francis (1907 – 2001) / Woodrow P. His Father (my paternal g grandfather) - Robert H. Gaines (Bedford County Va.) Occupation – farmer and wheelwright Born - approx late 1838 or early 1839 (???) Died – I am SURE that it wasn’t until sometime after 1900 (he was recognized as a Civil War Veteran in a 1900 publication related to that.) Married Margaret Scott of Bedford County Va. on 01/16/1868 (Daughter of Benjamin and Margaret W. Scott). Born about 1840. Robert H. Gaines served in the Civil War - Rank: Private, Company B., 10 VA. Heavy Art. Regiment, Enlisted May, 1861, Length of Service: 4 years. His father (my paternal gg grandfather) - Robert F. Gaines Occupation – farmer and miller Born – approx. 1812 Died – unknown Married Elizabeth Noell on 09/30/1830 Children of Robert F and Elizabeth Noell Gaines – Mary S. ??? Robert H. - (b. 1938 or 1839) Wheelwright James - (b. 1843 - 1844) Farmer For my fathers lineage, the information I have stops here, so I don’t have a clue as to how to link it back any farther, like to Wales, since I don’t know who Robert F. Gaines father was. Going back in the Gaines Family tree any farther is impossible UNTIL I can find out more information past Robert F. Gaines in Bedford County Va. (my gg grandfather) to get us back to Wales. Please help me with any information you have that might be pertinent. I will be eternally grateful, and will help anyone else I can with information they may need that I may have. I have always wondered if my early ancestors were royalty or rogues, princes or pirates… Notify Administrator about this message?
