Gary, thank you for your reply. The Peel (not Pell) children (Mary, Clara, Jefferson, George, and Sam Taply) are most likely Eli's grandchildren (Sarah Nunn Abbott's great grandchildren) whose parents Matilda Abbott and Addison Peel died in an epidemic and are buried in Delhi, LA, for some reason unknown to me. This info is from a family historian.
I'll bet you are right about the connection. It's interesting that Eli and his wife, Clarissa Tapley Abbott (She was from GA) have this elderly gentlemen we think may be his uncle also with them. If the census taker was correct, he would have been about 15 years older than his sister.
At age 60+, Eli was a calvary capt. in the Civil War--maybe he needed to get out of the well-populated household occasionally! I am emailing you directly.
