Christiana Nunemacher, who married Michael Steffe, was the daughter of Jacob Adam Nunemacher. This is confirmed by Jacob’s will, dated October 5, 1798 and probated August 16, 1802.This document lists Jacob’s children as: Jacob, Barbara (mar. Peter Baum), Gotleib, Christiana (mar. Michael Steffe), Philip, Catharine, Eve, Magdalena (mar. Geroge Bear), George, Jacob.Note that Jacob is listed twice, and Eve and Magdalena are likely one persona named Eve Magdalena. The comma between them appears to be a mistake.Barbara (Maria Barbara) and Catharine (Maria Catharina) were baptized at Sherman’s (AKA St. David’s) church. This leads me to conclude that Christiana (Maria Christiana) baptized between them was their sister, who would otherwise be missing from the baptismal register.I have not seen the original records, but the two transcripts that I have seen are full of question marks, as if much of the writing is difficult to read.It would not be surprising, then, that Jacob may have been read as George. There is certainly no other evidence of a George who could have been Christina’s father.Jacob Adam Nonnemacher immigrated via Philadelphia on the ship “Two Brothers” on August 28, 1750.I am using the spelling found on the immigration records, although many variants appear in other records.
