Thank you Ms. Herron.
Nugent was actually involved in two duels. He survived both, but clearly wasn't the winner in either. ... He married Magdalene Estudillo, who was the third or fourth daughter of a Catholic and wealthy rancho family in San Leandro California. ... I have learned since my last posting that the Nugents I'm seeking moved to Newark NJ, but John Nugent wasn't a small boy then. He attended St Patrick's College, Maynooth, and by 1841 or 42' he was the principle of a catholic school in Newark. Then he got involved in politics. The story is very long, but thank you for replying, and the news clip as well. If you ever happen over any from the New York Herald circa 1848, say from 3/29/48 -4/19/48 written by Nugent ('In the custody of the sergeant at arms.' is the title of one) please forward them to me.

Cheers,
C. King
