Historical Research Help

I don't want to take up alot of anyone's time, but this is a shot in the dark hail Mary that your line of Nugents is the same line for a man I'm researching for a novel. John Nugent was born in 1821 in Galway. He moved to the US, and went to Rutgers, then began work for the New York Herald, where he got caught up in a major dust up with history. Later he came to California, San Francisco (1849), started a newspaper, and much later began working for the Gov't in Washington State.

That's the nutshell of the man, there's more, a ton more, but all of my research stems from shortly before he came west to his time in the northwest. I need help with the East Coast life he led, why he left Ireland, etc. I have speculations of course, but don't want to get caught assuming myself down the merry drain.

Thanks in advance,
Charles A. King
