Rev. James Noyes' Coat of Arms

During the 16th and 17th centuries, the system of heraldry or coats of arms was in a mess and the monarchs sent out men to record families and the coats of arms they believed they were entitled to or not. During one of these, one the Noye family of Cornwall claimed arms and they were recorded. There is no proven link as far as I am aware other than similarity of name between the Noyes family of Hampshire/Wiltshire/Norfolk/Suffolk and the Noye family of Cornwall.
The Noyes family of Urchfont, Wiltshire was approached by the heralds and said they had no coat of arms, despite their wealth at the time. It is my belief various members of the Noyes family at various times have sought to improve their standing within their community by assuming the Noye arms from Cornwall because of the similarity of name. If the Noye family member had not registered his arms, our family wouldnever had any name to assume arms from. The information was accessible by anyone who had the means to enquire.
