Miscellaneous Nowlings, Santa Rosa Co., Florida

I am not related to these people, but this information was sent to me years ago by a man from Clermont, FL. I will enter a few of the highlights:

"4 Dec 1983 - Wm. F. Nowling has found tombstone in Jay Cemetery - can read name Nowling and dates b. 1844, d. 1885 or 1886. This must be John!"

"John Nowling - bro to old Henry (grandpap) from 1880 Santa Rosa Co., Census, p. 181, dwelling 454, District 1: Nowling, John, 28, Teamster, Ala, VA, SC; Missouri, 26 Ala, NC, NC, (in parenthesis - Missouri Johnson); John 9, Peter, 9, Wesley, 6, George F, 5, Marth V., 3, King 4/12, all born Florida; Johnson, Charles B. 72, father-in-law, NC, NC, NC, Rachel, 62, mother."

"Composite of records from 1900 & 1910 Santa Rosa Co. census, John does not appear on these census, however these children (can't read)"

"1. John S. b. Feb 1870 m. Terry - issue: Mannie E. b. June 1892; Bertha R., b. July 1894; Missie Ila b. Feb 1899; James B., b. 1902; Edna, b. 1906; Carrie L., b. 1909"

"2. Peter b. Sept 1869-m.Florida, adopted Dennis, b. 1900, brother King living with him in 1900."

"3. Wesley b. 1874."

"4. George F., b. March 1877 - m. Marion (Mary) - issue: Maude V., b. 1900; Emma, b. 1905; Durlin (?) b. 1909."

"Wm.F has found elderly widow of one of his sons - said Geo. F. named for an uncle and his grandfather."

"5. Martha V., b. 1871 -m George W. Nowling (son of Wm. J), issue: John H., b. 1895; Lillie H., b. 1898; SamuelD, b. 1904; Mattie E., b. 1907; Hattie M., b. 1909."

"6. King L., b. 1880, m. Melissa, issue: Peter A., b. 1910"

"7. Will b. 1881, m. Ella (?), issue: Etta, b. 1906; Ethyl, b. 1908; Rufus, b. 1909."

"John Captured in Civil War, was in Union prison several years. Died of wounds and diseases inflicted in war. On Walton (?) Co. tax list, 1872 & 1875."

This same man sent me other information on families named Nolen.
