I am trying to find information on my great grandfather, Joseph C Nowlin or J C Nowlin, as he was apparently known. I have been working on the family history for my father's side of my family and have a fountain of information on the paternal side (Dillon). I have gathered much information from the Benton County, MO Genealogy site about the maternal side, the Nowlins. I have learned about the wives of Joseph Nowlin. I now know which of Joseph's three wives was my actual great grandmother! Her birth and death dates, how many children she had, where she's buried. It's been nice to learn this information. I've also learned who her parents were and their parents! However, Joseph seems to remain a mystery.
According to various years census, he was born in Virginia, and his parents were both born in Virginia. There have been postings that refer to Abraham Nowlin and Sarah Ann Swift as his parents, but I have some doubts about this information. Abraham & Sarah were married AFTER (about 8 years after) Joseph's birth, and they were married in Missouri. Also Sarah Ann Swift was born in Pike County, MO according to information gathered. I am assuming Joseph's mother must have died before the his family left Virginia, but have nothing to go on. I am still searching, but if anyone has information to share, that would be fabulous!
