Since you posted your messsage, I've much more information on this extended branch of NOWLENs, who represent about 1/4 of NOWLENs now in the USA. Asa NOWLEN Jr. (b. 1787 Canterbury, Windham Co. CT) is a nephew of The Honor Sophia NOWLEN that I mentioned earlier. His father is Asa NOWLEN (1762 - 1818) of Caterbury, Windham Co. CT. Asa NOWLEN later became a ship captain and then later settled in Avon, Livingston Co. NY, as per local histories. The newspaper account that you mention apparently refers to a voyage when he was still a cabin boy, just beginning his profession at sea. Asa NOWLEN Jr. and his descendants later founded a famous spa resort at Avon NY. --- Steve Johnston Notify Administrator about this message?
