Your post caught my eye for two reasons: (1) My Nowland branch ancestors come from Missouri. Carroll County and Jefferson County beginning at least as early as 1819; and (2) My Great, Great Grandmother Martha Gentry Nowland who is giving me trouble - I can't figure out who her parents are.She was born, supposedly, in Missouri in either 1842 or 1843.She married my Great, Great Grandfather John T. Nowland in 1862 in Carroll County, MO.The best match I can get for her on the Federal Census prior to her marriage is in 1860 in Carroll County, Wakenda Township.A Martha Gentry age 20 (off by a couple of years but that's not unusual) was living with an older couple - Peter and Elizabeth BAUGH.Therefore, your maiden name(?) of Baugh and the fact that you are hunting Nowland's also and also from Missouri intrigues me.I have tried to figure out for years if she had been orphaned and the Baugh's were some kin, former neighbors from another location or what. Why was she (assuming that this is my Martha Gentry) living with them.
If you know anything that might be helpful on the Nowland/Baugh connection and might help me figure out if this is my Martha Gentry and why she was living with this Baugh family, I would appreciate the information.
I wish I could be of help on your Samuel Thompson Nowland but I don't have any information on him.
Thanks!
