Michael Nowland was in the 2nd Reg of Penn. Rifles. He mustered in at Marcus Hook, Penn. April 9, 1776. He was in the battle of Long Island Aug.26, 1776. He escaped by swimming at night to elude the British. Three quarters of his unit were captured. He was probably in Valley Forge the winter of 1777/1778.
