Judy,
Grandpa Longpre was a land agent. To my understanding, a person who staked out a homestead had to publish it in a local newspaper, so Grandpa owned The Moreau News.I will quote for you my personal notes (copyrighted of course :) )"He entered in partnership in 1910 establishing the Moreau News.By 1914 he was in partnership in the Arpan Bros. & Longpre, general store in Hoover. The Moreau News burnt down in late 1916. It is not known if the general store and pool hall burnt also. All interests in the Moreau News were sold to Henry Jacobsen of the Castle Rock Press in Feb 1917.Ed and his young family had left South Dakota for Montana by 1920."The book is "Cowboys & Sodbusters", produced by the local historical society in Bellefouche, SD.It is out of print and I have not been able to obtain a copy.I have 4339 people making up 2739 families in my Longpre data base. The Longpre data base also contains the 5 or 6 Novotny families.I have found little information on them.
You can e-mail me directly if you like.
