Sorry I don't know what his occupation was. From a letter of my auntie's, John Notter went to Toronto, Canada after marrying Miss McMullen. one of their son's - also called John Notter married and had two daughters Stella and Norah. I have a picture of the original John Notter sent by Stella around 1965 with the words "Brother of your Great Grandfather, John Notter", on the back. If the Lighthouse was built around 1841 then this could have been just before he went to Canada.
