the nottages in essex did come from wales.In 1326 lady eleanor despenser left Wales after the death of her husband, and went to her sisters at Clare taking a number of retainers from Nottage with her.Nottage in Wales was invaded by the romans in 47A.D and then by the Vikings in the 9th Century after
killing all the inhabitants the Vikings settled in Nottage and became farmers and traders.You mentioned a John Nottage, while tracing my Nottage family one of my ancesters
was John N Nottage and was a church warden of StMary's Stansted Mountfitchett around 1800. He was married to Catherine and had a son in 1792, his name was charles married Mary Lewsley and had a son Charles Swan Nottage who became Lord Mayor of London in
1884/85 and formes a Photographic co. With Sir David Brewster in 1856. I have more information if you need it. By the Way Furneux Pelham is in Hertfordshire not Essex
