Hi,
I think I found a very good match for the parents of your Carrie/Catherine daughter of Lars Petter and Elisabet, with a last name starting with a V or a W.

http://www.rhd.uit.no/folketellinger/ftliste_e.aspx?ft=1900&knr=1524&kenr=003&bnr=0011&lnr=00

Census year: 1900
Municipality: Norddal
Municipality number: 1524
Name of domicile: Valdal
Number of persons in this domicile: 4

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Name Family status Marital status Occupation Birth year Place of birth Ethnicity
Lars Peter O. Valdal hf g Gårdbruger 1842 Norddalen Rom
Elisabet Valdal hm g Gårdmandskone 1841 Norddalen Rom
Peter L. Waldal s ug Dreng Jordbrug 1876 Norddalen Rom
Elias Valdal s ug Søn Jordbrug 1885 Norddalen Rom

The father Lars Peter O. Valdal is a farmer, owns the farm at Valdal farm area. They live in Norddal, a municipality/main parish in the part of western Norway called Romsdal, which is today part of the Norwegian county called Møre og Romsdal.

By 1900, they still have two sons living with them. Peter L (for Larsen) Waldal, born 1876, and Elias Valdal, born 1885.

If I go back to the 1865 census, at that Valdal farm area, I find this Lars Peter Olsen (son of Ole) helping his father with farming.

270 34 Karen E. Pedersd. hans Kone g 62 k Nordalens Præstegj
271 1 Lars Peter Ols. deres Søn hjælper Fad. med Gaardb. ug 24 m Nordalens Præstegj.
272 2 Peder Ols. deres Søn hjælper Fad. med Gaardb. ug 21 m Nordalens Præstegj.

In 1910, the same couple is still living at Norddal main parish, at the Valdal farm, and there are a couple more clues to add.

http://www.rhd.uit.no/folketellinger/ftliste_e.aspx?ft=1910&knr=1524&kenr=002&bnr=0011&lnr=00

Census year: 1910
Municipality: Norddal
Municipality number: 1524
Name of domicile: Valdal
Number of persons in this domicile: 2

Name Family status Marital status Occupation Birth year Place of birth Ethnicity
Lars Petter Ols. hf g gaardbruker 11.01.1842 t
Elisabet Jonsd. hm g gaardbrukerkone 17.05.1841 t

So here is a good match for Elisabet Jonsdatter on the 1865 census, a hired hand at this place, possibly living with her sister?

http://www.rhd.uit.no/folketellinger/ftliste_e.aspx?ft=1865&knr=1524&kenr=004&bnr=0024&lnr=000

Nils Eliasen Husfader g Gaardbruger Selveier 1845 Nordalens Præstegjeld
Pernille Johnsdatter hans Kone g 1839 Nordalens Præstegjeld
Elisabet Johnsdatter ug Tjenestepige 1841 Nordalens Præstegjeld
John Thorsen hans Svigerfader g Føderaadsm 1812 Nordalens Præstegjeld

Knud Arnesen g Føderaadsmand 1798 Nordalens Præstegjeld
Sicilie Klausdatter hans Kone g 1800 Nordalens Præstegjeld

I found a very good match for your ancestor. It has bugged me that her name was Catherine, because it really wasn't a name in Norway. Plus, some of the Canada records show her name is Carrie, which was often an English "translation" of a Norwegian Kari or Karen.

The couple I found on the census had several children, not just the two sons found with them still in 1900. Here are the children for them that I found at the free search site, familysearch.org

Your ancestor is most likely Karen Elisabet Larsen.
https://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.1.1/NCVP-K9Q

parents: Lars Peter Olsen, Elisabet Jonsdr

name: Karen Elisabet Larsen
gender: Female
baptism/christening date: 14 Jul 1872
baptism/christening place: NORDDAL,MORE OG ROMSDAL,NORWAY
birth date: 09 Jun 1872
father's name: Lars Peter Olsen
mother's name: Elisabet Jonsdr
indexing project (batch) number: C42241-3
system origin: Norway-ODM
source film number: 124861

I can find her baptism in the actual scans of the parish records for Norddal in Møre og Romsdal.

Karen Elisabet Larsen's baptism adds another clue, the last name Vigen!

http://www.arkivverket.no/URN:kb_read?idx_kildeid=6430&idx_id=6430&uid=ny&idx_side=-55

She is entry 25 on the page, the third girl down.

Translation: Born June 9, baptised July 14, 1872, Karen Elisabet, legitimate birth (parents married 1867). Parents are farm owner Lars Peter Olsen Valdal, 30 years old, and Elisabet Johnsdatter, 30 years old.
The baptismal sponsors are:
Knut Ytterdal and his wife, Ingebrigt Uri, Mons Pedersen Valdal, and Lovise Johnsdatter Vigen.

(according to naming customs in Norway, I would hazard a guess that Lovise Johnsdatter Vigen is Elisabet Johnsdatter's sister.)

Now to complete this search, I would like to try to find Karen Elisabet Larsdatter Valdal's emigration from Norway.
