Hi Jason, it's great that you've included the other discussion on this topic at DIS, because then we can see what's been tried or discovered. I am going to add a new wrinkle, Thompson could be right or not, because I have also seen immigrants who had patronyms like Torbjørnsen, or other Norwegian names that starte with a T, Thoresen, etc. and Americanized that name to Thompson. Or a census taker did. Also, he may not have been from Bergen, the actual city, but from an outlying area - Voss, or farther out. If he came over as a child with his parents, it's possible that his father's name was Christopher Thompson or some variation of that, but his records in Norway would be under Signor?? Christophersen/Kristoffersen/Christofersen - son of Christopher. What do the censuses say about his immigration year, in the columns about that? Was he anaturalized citizen, and have you found thos papers? It usually says in the census about citizenship and sometimes what year. Notify Administrator about this message?
