Vingsand ug Arb m 18 Bjørnør Chicago Ill American Domino Bill. bet. i Amerika Meldt Leaving Norway May 14, 1890, Hans W. Vingsand, unmarried, worker, male, age about 18, from Bjørnør, going to Chicago, Ill, on the American shipping line, the ship he leaves Trondheim on is Domino. his ticket was paid for in America by someone . . . That looks very good, because sometimes the dates on the records are the dates they are registering to leave. At that time, there were often feeder ships that loaded people in Norway, brought them to Hull, England, and they made the overland trip in England by train to Liverpool, where the transatlantic ships were loaded to take them to America. HEre is a website which has information on all of those ships. They also have a query board, but most of the people who frequent that board also look here, so if you post a question, don't make them start from scratch - tell what you know already. http://www.norwayheritage.com/ British Prince Page: http://www.norwayheritage.com/p_ship.asp?sh=brpr1 The closest date to his leaving Trondheim on May 14 or 15th is to arrive in 1890 on: 1890 Liverpool Philadelphia June 01 Also reported to be the S/S British Princess (from the website) I wonder if there are passenger lists for the port of Philadelphia - that would be interesting to find out. Meanwhile, back at the parish, (Osen? Roan? Bjørnør?) they often had to "Sign out" of the parish when they left, moved, or emigrated. http://www.arkivverket.no/URN:kb_read I can't get that website to work this morning, so please remind me to search there for you later on. Utflyttande is the heading they are listed under. Out moving Notify Administrator about this message?
