Johanna came to America at age 16, when a cousin sent her a ticket, about 1889-1890.She stayed with the cousin's family in South Dakota, caring for their children; and learned the language from the children. She married in Minnesota in 1895, and had 8 children - one of whom died in infancy. She lived out her life in Minnesota.I located her descendants earlier this year, and actually met a grandson in Texas this past June; and am in contact with other grandchildren.Johanna saved her money, and sent Karoline a ticket in about 1894; and Karoline also came to America. She married in 1895 in South Dakota, and had 9 children - two of whom died in infancy. My mother-in-law was #7 of the 9.
Thank you so much for the information.I am looking forward to the translation from the Tysnes bygdebok.
