Update on Norvell DNA
As a reminder not to pay too much attention to the multiple acceptable ways of spelling our common surname, we recently confirmed DNA matches among modern-day descendants of (1) the early Virginia Norvell family, (2) the Rutherford County, North Carolina Norville family (of which I am a descendant) and (3) Parker Norval (born in 1804 in Kentucky or Virginia to parents unknown and who later migrated to Missouri).Three of us participated in the expanded testing option (35 markers) and discovered that we share the same paternal ancestor about 6-10 generations back.
If you are a male Norvell/Norville/Norvill/Norval/etc, please consider testing yourself and then comparing and sharing your results.
Our results also indicate that the male Norvell lineage carries the I1 haplotype marker suggesting likely Viking descent rather than I1 haplotype marker suggesting Anglo-Saxon descent. Most of the UK population does not carry I1 but it is more common in the areas where the Vikings settled.Testing does not (yet) allow us to pinpoint where in Britain our Norvell ancestors lived.
