Norway - Northey families in Cornwall, England

Greetings to the extended Northey family,

I am a Norway tracing his ancestry back to Charles Norway in 1780's, New Jersey. As I am sure the Northey family is already aware of, there were quite a few Norway families in Cornwall - same areas that the Northey family still lives in in southern England.

Through 25 years of research, Charles Norway remains a "mystery" man - not traceable back to any of the Norway family in Cornwall. Recently it came to my attention that perhaps Charles was in fact a "Northey" who may have changed his name to "Norway" immediately after the Revolutionary War? It does not make sense that a young man in his 20's during the mid 1770's would not appear as a soldier or militia member on either side of this conflict. Our family theory has been that Charles did change his surname in order to begin a new life. If Charles did immigrate from Cornwall, he may have been born into the Northey family but then changed his surname to Norway - probably familiar with this old Cornwall family.

Before I begin calling the Northey family members in Cornwall and sending them letters, I wanted to give this online forum a chance to respond.

The paper genealogy trail is oftentimes fraught with much misinformation, mispellings, erratic histories. Instead I now rely on Genetic DNA science to discover my distant cousins. I am confirmed through both FTDNA and Ethno Ancestry (EA) through 70-marker testing as belonging to R1b, and specifically S29+ / U 198. If there is any male member of the Northey family that has conducted DNA testing, I would very much like to chat with them.

If no DNA testing has been conducted by a Northey male, then I will contact male Northey family members still living in Cornwall to see if any of them would volunteer for testing and yes I would pay for the initial testing (free).

This is a long shot - but this is sometimes what folks need to do in order to discover the truth, to rely on the hard sciences. My distant cousins also within S29+ include members of the Brown, Rose, Sloan, and Dyer families.

Kind Regards,
John Norway
S29+ / U198
