Re: Keane/Kane DNA Project
My reply to AMY on the Kane Family Genealogy Forum:
Amy:
The best suggestion I can make based on the info you have given is that the spelling KANE is most likely from the Province of Ulster(Northern Ireland and some surrounding counties.
But, recent Y-DNA results suggest that there are several separate origins for the KANE surname and variants. Some are probably the separate O'CEINs.Also there apparently are wide time frames over which Ulster branches separated from the larger UiNEILL line. Some may be OCATHAINs (O'CAHANs).Other variants such as McCAIN seem to show wide spreads of time based on Genetic Distances, yet the results show similarities suggesting a remote common ancestor, perhaps as far back as 500 AD in some cases.
I suggest you checki all USA sources that may contain a reference to your KANE place of origin in Ireland. In the meanwhile checki my web page at -:

If you have any male-line KANEs bearing the KANE surname he/they would be most welcome to participate in my project.
All other KANEs, etc. please take notice!
