I am researching the family.
Hugh Mitchell was born about 1868, his fathers name comes from Hughs marriage record. His father was Thomas. No mother`s name mentioned. His father`s name is also found on his death record which I found at
1301 Govan Road, Glasgow, Lanark, Scotland
(Usual residence: 11 Stanley Street, Kinning Park, Glasgow, Lanark, Scotland) 1924.
Hugh married Margaret Kane in 1890. She has been a widow already, her first husband was Benjamin Anderson. Margaret Kane was born about 1868 also. I found her parents names on her death record, which I found in Govan, (Plantation) Lanarkshire, Scotland 1919.
Margaret Kane`s parents were John Kane and Susanna Blair.

-George Mitchell born abt 1892 (from Scotland Military record)
he put down his next of kin as wife, E Mitchell. He signed his father`s death record.
- Hugh Mitchell (this is the man I`m researching)
born in April 1893. Married Betsey Wishart Mitchell in Markinch, Fife, Scotland in 1916. (her maiden name was Mitchell). His usual residence at the time was in Glasgow. He had been stationed in Edinburgh when he was in the Territorial Forces, about 1915.
Hugh and Betty Mitchell had children, some of which were
Eunice born abt 1920-ish died as a baby from Meningitis.
Betsy Wishart Mitchell born 1925

Other children of Hugh Mitchell and Margaret Kane, were.
(possibly an Elizabeth or Betsy and possibly a John)
I would be interested to find out if your Robert Mitchell had a brother named Thomas Mitchell, who may have been the father to the first Hugh (sr).
Because Hugh Jr. (+margaret Kane)`s first son (I think its their first anyway) was named George, I had wondered if Thomas`s name was actually Thomas George, or George Thomas. I did find a name like that in the records for Ballymoney, on the net at one time.
