Mountfield, Omagh, Tyrone -- Rutledge
Posted by: Mary (ID *****6784) Date: July 07, 2008 at 14:28:16

I am making a very 'plodding' attempt to confirm where my great-great-grandparents and their family emigrated from in Co. Tyrone and when they came to Canada. Based on somewhat circumstantial evidence I have two hypothesis: my William Rutledge came from an area called Glen Upper in Mountfield, Termonmaguirk, and they emigrated approximately 1854.

The community called Mountfield only currently has about 250 residents, if my sources are correct. Therefore the area called Glen Upper had at most a handful of residents and is a very small geographical area (I'm in Oregon so if anyone has any concrete insite into this I'd appreciate it).

I find it interesting that in a Covenant signed in 1912 regarding Home Rule, that 5 individuals with the name of Rutledge appear from the Mountfield area: George Rutledge, Thomas J. Rugledge, Robert Rutledge, Alexander Rutledge. While my family emigrated over 50 years earlier, I'm wondering if there could still be a relationship to these Rutledges in 1912,given the limited population.

If anyone has any of these individuals in their data, or has a connection to this family, I'd really like to hear.

Thanks!

Mary
