Could you give more information about the Maxwells of Farnham that you mentioned?
There is a Farnham Gillespie in Armagh near the border with Tyrone in 1827 Tithe Applotment whose daughter Elizabeth married Wm Davison (son of Hamilton Davison) at Lislooney Presbyterian church in 1847. Gillespies in that area also married into Bell family.
My ancestor who came to Quebec about 1830 named his 2nd son Farnham Gillespie & that given name persisted in the family for three more generations. I'm hoping it is a clue to the family's origins in Ireland. It would help to learn more about why Farnham became a given name! I know there are several towns by that name in England, and Lord Farnham in Co Cavan (my relatives were ardent Methodists so may have been in honor of him). I've not seen anyone with Farnham as a surname in that area, so it may not have been another branch of the family.
Your thoughts welcomed ....
