Jeremiah Gelvin, b. 1724 in Northern Ireland, m. Hannah
I have recently discovered one, possibly two, Gelvin/Galvin lines in my ancestry.
My GGGGrandparents were John Perry Jackson, b. 1818 in East Fallowfield, Meadville, Crawford, PA and Catherine Galvin, b. 1819 in East Fallowfield, Meadville, Crawford, PA.
I don't have any more information on Catherine's parents, but I know that many families tend to 'interbreed', so she may be related to the later lineage of Gelvins.
John's parents were:
Abraham Jackson, b. 1779, Susquehanna Valley, PA, m. Elizabeth (Betsy) Gelvin, b. 1794 in Maryland. They both died in East Fallowfield, Meadville, Crawford, PA. Both families are mentioned in published histories of the area.
Elizabeth's parents were:
Jeremiah Gelvin, b. 1765 in Franklin Co., PA, and Mary Walker, b. 1765 in Cumberland Co., PA. Both also died in East Fallowfield.
Jeremiah's parents were:
Jeremiah Gelvin, b. 1724 in Northern Ireland?, and Hannah, b. abt 1724. Both died in Letterkenny Twp, Franklin Co., PA.
There seems to be some controversy over Jeremiah the elder's origins, either Northern Ireland or Scotland. He is said to have emigrated around 1740, and may have settled in Salem Co. NJ before moving to PA.
Does anyone have further information on this line to share? I would love to share data. Please email me at [email protected] if you have any data, thanks!!!
