Hi Lynn
I have been researching my husband's family who, on his maternal grandmother's side (Mary Niven, b. 1893 and niece to the James Just Niven in South Africa) come from the central area of Scotland, namely Angus, Perth, Fife and the Edinburgh area. The connection I have between the Justs and Norries is this;
Thomas Just (b. 7 feb 1761) married Jane Wemyss (b. 21 sept 1776) on 23 Feb 1808 in Dundee. There is a Just family tombstone in the Howff records in Dundee (tomb #464 - there is a website for this cemetery - www.dundee-howff.info/). Jane is listed on this tombstone. She was Thomas's second wife, his first being Margaret Thain.
Jane's parents were James Wemyss and Magdalene Norrie, married 22 June 1766. It was from Magdalene's father that George Norrie Just got his name. She was the daughter of George Norrie and Jean Knox (m. in Edinburgh in 1742).
Other children of Geroge and Jean were Margaret (b. 1743), Jane (b. 1745), James (b. 1746), George (b. 1751) and George (b. 1753), the first George must have died in infancy.
This is the only connection I have between the two families. I hope this helps a little.
Jennifer
