Ruby, the David Norman to whom you refer in your posting is my Great-Great-Great-Grandfather. David was married first to Mary Sanders (and not NANCY as you will find incorrectly stated in many genealogies) as proved by settlement of her father Jacob's estate, he having died intestate in September of 1849. Following Mary's death after the birth of their seventh child in 1843, David married again in 1844 - to a much younger Susannah Klope. She said she picked him because, "I think he is pretty". Susannah Klope and David Norman had an additional seven children. So yes, he had 14 children according to the above.

I believe that the Jane to whom you refer was the wife (and subsequently widow) of an unknown/unnamed brother of David, Solomon and Jonathan OR the widow of a Nathan or Hiram Norman (a hunch based only on the names of the oldest sons) OR most likely wife of a nephew of Henry Norman, David's father. Henry had brothers Isaac and Aaron living in Anderson County - and between them, they had many children.

Henry and his boys and their family left Anderson County, TN for Williamson County (then a part of Franklin County) Illinois about 1826. This can be dated pretty accurately as the oldest son of David and Mary Sanders Norman, Calvin who is my Great-Great Grandfather, was born in 1825 and he always stated he was born in TN on every legal document. David and Mary's next child, Francis Marion Norman was born in IL about 1827. And FM so stated on every legal document that he was born in IL.

Jane's child Lucinda, aged 16 claims to have been born in TN and Marcus, aged 11 in IL in the 1850 Census. That would mean that this family came to IL sometime between 1835 and 1839, at least 10 years after Henry and his boys.

I really haven't researched this family much in the last 8 years. However, I did try many years ago to find Jane's origins, and do believe that she belongs with the Norman family who came from Anderson County, TN, connected to Eli who was father to Henry and grandfather to David. I do know however that she was not married to David at any time.
