Actually the more I think about it, the more I wonder. Could your David Norman have been William Jett Norman, son of James H. Norman and brother to Cyrus Albert Norman. He was born I've heard around 1821.
And who was the W. A. Norman who witnessed Sarah Jane Mayberry's death certificate. My Norman family (descended from Cyrus Norman) moved from Bradley county shortly after the Civil war to Cherokee Indian Territory. Cyrus married a Cherokee (her name was Martha Clingan) I have never figured out what happened to William Jett Norman or when his father James H. Norman died.
James H. Norman's wife was Nancy Wiley. I believe my Normans originated in North Carolina, maybe Caswell County.
Any of this ring any bells?
