My ggrandfather arrived from Sweden in Wilmington, North Carolina, USA after jumping ship, reputedly around 1860 to 1865. The time could be somewhat later. His gravestone indicates that he was John Alton Larson born in Hallsberg, Sweden 1 Mar 1846. Members of my family have never been able to substantiate any of this information.
Recently while searching the Family History Library (LDS) database for births for John Larson in Sweden, the only hit I got for 1 Mar 1846 was for a Johan Oscar Larsson Nordin in Gavle, Gavleborg, Sweden. There are several names in the records of his Swedish family and his North Carolina family that may just be coincidental, however worth a query. Johan Nordin's mother was named Anna Akerlund and John Larson married Anna Lumsden; John Larson had a son named Oscar; and Johan Nordin had a sister and brother with middle name of Agust(a) and John Larson named my grandmother Goldia Augusta. Lars Nordin and Anna Akelund were married 19 Jan 1840.
This may just be a shot in the dark, but if anyone has information on this family or can help in any way I would appreciate it. Thanks.
