I'm sorry it took me so long to write back. I've had some technical problems with my computor. Here is my letter to Anna.
I am afraid you are on the wrong track regarding Johan Nordahl Brun. In some rare cases Nordahl is used as a christian name. So also in this case. Johan Nordahl Brun Was a famous (in Norway that is) author and a lot is written about him. The Library of the University of Oslo can help you find out if anything is written in English. http://www.ub.uio.no/
Is their homepage.
To find out more about the family it might be usefull to contact the National Arcives and this is their homepage http://www.riksarkivet.no/national.html
I am sure they are pleased to help you. For your information There are nearly 1500 living persons in with Nordahl as a family name. It is a name that describes where you come from. The first part "nord" means north. The second "dal" means valley. It means that you come from the northern valley. Since norway is full of valleys there is more than one place called Norddal.
(The spelling Nordahl, was to make more sofisticated. Many families did so in the 1800s.)
