I have an Alexander Knoll b. 1808 living in Howard, Centre County, PA in 1870. Wife is Margret (b. 1810). He is listed as hotel keeper with 4 sons:
John M. (b. 1837, bar keeper)
Ira C. (b. 1839, boatman)
Wilber F. (b. 1847, bar keeper)
Winfield S. (b. 1850, boatman)

One of them married Susan L. Mahaffey (b.1847), daughter of James Mahaffey and Elizabeth N. Holter. Problem is, I don't know which one. By 1880, Susan is head of household (possibly widowed, but listed as married) with 4 daughters (Annie, Margaret, Nancy and Bertha) and her widowed father-in-law Alexander living with her.

Wondering if Alexander is a brother to Emmanuel and if John is the one mentioned in the newspaper as going to Kansas?
