What I have is that John Franklin Whitney's father was James Whitney, born c. 1791 in Massachusetts. By 1815 he had located in Vermont, where John Franklin was born in that year. By 1850 the father and son were in Brown County, Illinois, and are found living on adjoining land. Do you have this record? James Whitney is 59, apparently a widower, and has with him Solomon, age 8 born in New York, and an Aaron Inman, age 13, born in Ohio. Back beyond James Whitney, I do not have any information. Hope this helps. The Whitney line has been very difficult to trace. This census record shows the wife of John F.Whitney to be Sarah, though.
