Noblet/Noblitt SC>Bedford Co., TN>Benton Co., AR
I'm wondering if anyone can help me connect a few dots in this family in my line.
I am descended through Nancy T. Noblitt, b. 12 Oct 1843 in Bedford Co., TN.Nancy is my 3rd great grandmother.
Brief background where the confusion sits:
The 1850 Census shows Nancy living in Dist. 22, Bedford Co., TN.Her younger brother John (b. abt 1845 Bedford Co.) is in the same household. There are 4 people in that household. The 2 adults are William Noblet (the only place his name is spelled that way, everywhere else it's listed as Noblitt) and his wife, Mary.William is age 61 (b. abt 1789, NC), and Mary is age 48 (b. abt 1801 in NC, although other records place her as b. abt 1788-1789).That's a huge age gap between William/Mary and Nancy/John, so I'm thinking they are probably grandparents or other relative of Nancy/John, who's parent's may be deceased.
In the next household on that same census is another Noblet family -- Joshua Noblet.Again, this one census is the only place the surname is spelled Noblet instead of Noblitt. The Joshua Noblet/Noblitt household were all born in Tennessee and listed as 'tenants', and consists of:
Joshuab. abt 1826
Nancy A.b. between 1820-1825
Williamb. abt. 1844
Alexanderb. abt. 1845
Stephenb. abt. 1846
Newtonb. abt. 1848
Now it seems clear to me that these two families are closely related, as they all migrated together by 1860 to Flint twp, Benton Co., Arkansas.Although they moved a couple of times within Benton County, for census years 1860, 1870, and 1880 both families lived near or next to each other in the same townships, which is where the families remained.
I believe I found this same William Noblitt on the census for Bedford Co., TN for years 1840, 1830, and 1820.However, because those years don't list family member names, only ages, I am not 100% certain it is the same William Noblitt.. only about 90% certain. On those same years, usually on the same page I also find a John Noblitt, and a Jacob Noblitt (Jacob is not on the 1820, only 1830 and 1840).I also find an Abraham Noblitt in Bedford Co., TN on the 1840 census. When found in these census', all these Noblitts are listed either on same or next page, and usually only a couple of names apart, or in some cases right next to each other.I've lost a good trail on William and John Noblitt prior to the 1820 census, because I believe they were probably still in NC where they were born. But I can't pick up the trail in NC just by census info.
So I have 3 basic missing links I need help with:
1)How does the Joshua Noblet/Noblitt family connect to William and Mary Noblet/Noblitt in 1850 in Bedford Co., TN?I saw an unconfirmed guess in another forum that suggested this Joshua Noblitt's father and mother were William and Mary, but no information was given to back that up, and no information on Mary's maiden name.
and
2)On the 1850 census, if William and Mary are not the actual parents of Nancy and John, who were Nancy and John's parents, what happened to them, and what is their relationiship to William and Mary?
and
3)Is the William Noblitt of Bedford Co., Tenn in the 1840, 1830, 1820 census' the same as my William & Mary in 1850?And if so, what is the connection between those 4 Noblitt names on those pre-1850 Bedford Co., TN census:William, John, Jacob, and Abraham. And any information about William's parent's names would be helpful as well.
Thanks so much to anyone who can help me fill in these blanks!
