Notes for JOHN W. ELKINS:
December 2001. On Sarah's death certificate, it lists her father as John W. Elkins and mother as Jane Noblet. On John's birth state, the census are not clear whether it's KY or TN. The census states both. If I had to guess, it was probably KY, and from there they migrated south through TN to AL.

More About JOHN W. ELKINS:
Federal Census: 1860, Palestine, Calhoun County, Alabama, pg 492
Children of MARY NOBLETT and JOHN ELKINS are:
       i.       MARY CATHERINE5 ELKINS, b. Abt. 1849, Calhoun County, Alabama; d. Aft. 1860.
6.       ii.       SARAH FRANCES ELKINS, b. April 05, 1852, Calhoun County, Alabama; d. August 31, 1932, Wildwood, Sumter County, FL; Cert. 16216.

Federal Census: 1870, Cleburne County, AL
       i.       SARAH CATHERINE5 NOBLETT, b. 1870.
ii.       JAMES MILLARD NOBLETT, b. Abt. 1871, AL; d. Unknown; m. OPHELIA PARKER; b. Unknown; d. Unknown.

iv.       SAVANNAH NOBLETT, b. Abt. 1876.
       v.       CHARLES NOBLETT, b. 1879.

Generation No. 5

6. SARAH FRANCES5 ELKINS (MARY JANE4 NOBLETT, SAMUEL3, SAMUEL2, WILLIAM1)2 was born April 05, 1852 in Calhoun County, Alabama3, and died August 31, 1932 in Wildwood, Sumter County, FL; Cert. 16216. She married (1) PATRICK HENRY LAWRENCE 18673, son of THOMAS LAWRENCE and ELIZABETH BANKSTON. He was born June 02, 1849 in Walker County, Georgia, and died October 06, 1892 in AL3. She married (2) UNKNOWN SHEPPARD Aft. 1900. He was born Unknown, and died Bef. 1920.

December 5, 2001. Got Sarah's death certificate back from the state. It lists her name as Mrs Sarah F. Sheppard. It also lists her as a widow with her husband name as Patrick H. Lawrence. It doesn't list a birthday but it states her date of death as 31 August 1932 and that she was 80 years, 4 months, 26 days old when she died. My calculations puts her birthday on 5 April 1852 in Alabama. It lists her father as John W. Elkins from Alabama and her mother as Jane Noblet (Noblett) from Alabama. The informant is listed as Cornelia (Camelia) Hahn.

April 2002: It appears that Sarah Frances was named after her Aunt Sarah Jane Elkins on her father's side and Aunt Emily Frances Noblett on her mother's side.

September 2002: Found Sarah, age 77 still living with daughter, Camelia Hahn and grandson, Wilson Hahn on the Wildwood-Inverness Road in the Rutland District of Sumter County, FL on the 1930 Census. According to the census, Sarah was first married at age 15.

October 2002: Found Sarah, born May 1854-age 46; Annie E., born December 1883-age 16; and Camelia E., born September 1886-age 13 on the 1900 Walton County, FL census in DeFuniak Springs. For Sarah, this conflicts with her death certificate. Many of the dates on the census, have proven to be incorrect. When you look at her ages on all census records, the years 1852 or 1853 are her most likely birth years. On her birth month, see the note for December 5, 2001 above. It comes out to be April 5, 1852, not May.

Burial: September 1932, Lane H1, Row 16, Nichols Cemetery, Sumter County, FL
Federal Census: 1930, Rutland, Sumter County, FL
Moved to AL: January 02, 1887, "Southern Branch of the Lawrence Family"

Sarah was my great-grandmother. I'm looking for Sarah's parents on the 1870 census but no luck so far. You wouldn't happen to know where they were in 1870, would you?
Also, our family lore has it that Sarah was part-Indian but I haven't found any proof of that as yet. Maybe John W. Elkins was Indian.
