I have a diary from my g-grandfather James Clendinning, 1849 - 1926, of Oxford County, Ontario, Canada. In it he wrote this about his own grandfather James, who was apparently born approx. 1789:
"James Clendinning the Waterloo veteran was one of a family of fifteen, 9 boys and 6 girls, all lived to maturity. One of his sisters was married to Mungo Noble, a captain in the army. Lord Erin gave him a present of a piece of his estate. They called it Munville. He had two sons william & Richard."
I am hoping to find info that might bear this out (or even prove it a family myth!).
There is also family lore that says when James Clendinning moved to Canada he travelled with some Nobles. Presumably because of this connection to the Nobles, my g-grandfather James named one of his sons Richard Noble Clendinning.
