George Varney was located in Clayton, NM by the 1910 Census and by my mother's stories. He was a Baptist, and I understand he was a missionary (not tied down to a church). I would like to know when he came to Clayton, and when he left. Another source of information might be school records of his daughter, Bernice Lydia Varney, born in February, 1900, in Spokane, Washington, which would put her in elementary school at that time. She told of travelling across the fields along a fence line to school (often riding a donkey). At least this is as I remember it. (Why don't we record everything when we have the source handy? She died in December, 1993.) I don't know what records might be available in or about Clayton, NM, but I would appreciate your help. Thank you. Carl Nissen.
