McCleskey, Rhoades, Crum - 1880's to present

Green Spencer and Martha J. Rhoades McCleskey and their children came to Otero Co. after 1900. Martha died in 1904 as a result of childbirth complications after the birth of her 7th child Mary Alice McCleskey. Martha is buried in the Mountain Park Cemetery in High Rolls. According to family stories, Martha's mother Elizabeth Jane Lavender Rhoades Crum came to Otero Co. about 1903-4 to help Martha; however she could have been there as early as the 1880's. Elizabeth Crum was in the 1910 Otero Co. census living next door to Green and his children. Green was a blacksmith and died as a result of being kicked in the head by a mule. His brothers came from Texas and took him to be buried with his mother in King, Coryell Co., TX. Elizabeth Crum raised her daughters' children until she died in 1913. She is supposed to be buried near her daughter in Mountain Park Cemetery. If you have any information concerning these people, please email me at
