Hereditary disease among Geonimo Marquez descendents

Early this year I read a current article describing the impact this hereditary disease has had on families in New Mexico and Southwest. It has been confirmed in Albquerque at University and in hospitals who have seen many with the drooping eyelids and poor hip function among descendents of early Spanish settlers and soldiers. Not only Geronimo Marquez descendents, but those families with early French trapper ancestors (some arrived from Quebec where disease was finally diagnosed and traced to a specific immigrant from France.) Genetic testing can prove its existence.
As I am descended from 3 G.Marquez lines and two French lines, Chauvelon fur trapper, and Alire right from France, I am having a daughter tested. L.D.
