Looking for Afro-Hispanic Info for New Mexico

My great great great grandfather Juan de Jesus born c.1842 he married Rejina Nieto in 1866. In the 1870 nd 1880 census he lists he ethnicity as black. And another entry Juan de Jesus Herrera married to a Nabora ?? don't if this is same man but most likely not because each list a different wife don't know if they were related can't find a connection. is there a organization or book on the Afro-Hispano history in New Mexico I know for a fact that since the early days of the conquistadores blacks have played a role in the history of the Southwest most notably Estevanico a black Moor with the Cabeza de Vaca expedition
and with fray Marcos de Niza who arrived in Zuni in 1539.Hope someone can help me thanks
