Robert, Is this the same Juan Chavez y Baca listed in F. Stanley's book, "Civil War in New Mexico"? I wondered if this Juan Chavez y Baca listed in Stanley's book was the Juan I have been looking for. In some records his parents were referred to as Antonio Chaves and Barbara Baca. (Diego Antonio Chaves and Barbara Baca Jaramillo, Cebolleta) I have been on the look-out for a Juan Chaves/Chabes, husband of Manuela Romero, who disappeared between 1860 and 1870. He may have been living in the Limitar or Sabinal area at the time. His wife's 1893 death record stated she was the widow of Juan Chaves, so he did die before her. He was first cousin to the famed Manuel Antonio Chaves, and I suspect Juan's brother Valentin also campaigned in the Civil War. Please contact me if you think you might have something of interest or would like more info to go on. Thanks!
