Francis (Frank) Eugene Malone, Union County
I have been searching for several years for information regarding this ever elusive George W. Malone and his wife, Nancy Childs. Though I have been able to trace two of their children, I can find nothing whatsoever on their ancestors.
I have found George 34 yrs and Nancy 30 yrs(Malown)on the 1850 Polk County, Iowa census with the following children:
Ferdinand, 11 yrs Jacob, 10 yrs Martha A. 8 yrs, Sydney J. 6 yrs, Ephraim 3 yrs(my 3rd-great grandfather), and Sarah V. 6 months.All are born in Virginia.
The 1860 Mercer County, Missouri Census list G. W. Malone, 43 yrs blacksmith, wife Nancy, 39 yrs, and children Sidney J., 16 yrs, Ephraim, 12 yrs, S.V., 10 yrs, R.A., 8 yrs (Rhoda)born in Iowa, and Georgia M., 6 yrs born in Iowa.
Ferdinand is never found again in my searches. So I would presume that he passed away at a fairly young age.
Jacob, is living on his own by 1860. Sarah, Rhoda and Georgia Melvina are still of the home according to the 1870 Mercer County, MO census. I have not found Sarah is not found anywhere after 1870.
Also living in the same county in 1870 are:
Ephraim 22 yrs with his wife Mary Ann (Slover), 26 years and two children, Isaday Alice, 2 yrs and Almunt (? census record difficult to make out), 7 months.
Mitchell, (Jacob)and his wife Martha (Slover) and their children Victor S., 2 yrs and Hadley H., 7 months.
By 1880 George and Ephraim are living in Trego County, Kansas.
1880 Trego County, Kansas Census records show George is 66 years old and Nancy is 60 years old living in Town 11, Range 25. The census records also states that George was born in Virginia and both parents born in Tennessee. Nancy is listed as being born in Virginia and both her parents born in West Virginia.
Epraim, 30 yrs and wife Mary A. 38 yrs with children Alice, 11 yrs, Emma, 8 years, Frank, 6 yrs (my 2nd g-grandfather), and Roscoe, 2 years.
There are no 1890 census records are they were destroyed by fire on Jan. 10, 1921.
1900 Mitchell County, Kansas Census records show Nancy Malone 80 years old, living with her daughter Rhoda and her husband James B. Brown.
Family gossip says that George Malone died in Ft. Smith, Arkansas, but I have no proof of this. According to census records, I would presume he died sometime after 1880.
Ephraim and his wife Mary are said to have made the Oklahoma Land Run and homesteaded near Cashion or Hunter, Oklahoma. (I am still searching Land Patents to verify this info).
1920 Union County New Mexico Census, places Frank (s/o Ephraim)and his wife Oma (Fair) with son Adrian, 21 years living in the home.
Frank and Oma's son Ned (my gr-grandfather)and his wife, Susie (Biffle) live on the adjoining farm.
Any information regarding this family would be greatly appreciated and I would be happy to exchange info as well.
