Lost Navajo Child
I'm looking for ANY information on Ila Pearson. The birth date we have for her is April 08, 1861. I have traced her back to Coffee County, GA, living with her "mother" and two younger "sisters" (Georgia and Angel)in 1880. Ila was about 8 years old at the time. I can't get any further back than that. She later married John Coxwell and moved to Florida where she raised her own family. She told her children that she was actually Navajo and born in Gallup, NM. We believe this story to be true. Her children bear all the Navajo physical charactoristics. We believe she was adopted by the woman (Elizabeth Pearson) listed as her mother on the 1880 Coffee County census. If anyone has ANY information that would help us restore this heritage, please contact me.
