I was glad to get your message. I went to the Library on Tuesday and was searching the New Mexico books they have. I still have very little information but hope to look through some things that I copied and see if I can discover more.
My Sedillos connection is as follows:
my gr.gr.grandmother was Maria Octaviana Sedillos who married Francisco Candelaria. She was christened 28 Mar 1853 in Mesilla, New Mexico. This is near Las Cruces which is near El Paso, Texas.
As near as I can figure, Maria Octaviana's father was Agapito Sedillos, son of Blas Sedillos.
This is as far as I have right now. I have two uncles living in Silver City, New Mexico right now. I plan to write them and ask them if they remember any cousins named Diaz, Candelaria, or Sedillos.
I have also seen Sedillos spelled Cedillos.
When was your father born in Silver City? Did he grow up there. My father was born in Santa Rita, NM which is by Silver City. Santa Rita is no more - they moved the houses and buildings and have dug for copper where Santa Rita once stood.
My gr. grandmother, Juliana Candelaria (daughter of Maria Octaviana Sedillos and Francisco Candelaria) moved to Los Angeles to live with her daughter when she was a widow in the 1930's and died there. Juliana first married Alfonso (Ildefonso) Diaz and after he was killed in a mining accident, she married a man named Edward Moulton. Alfonso Diaz was my gr. grandfather.
Have you come across any of these names in your research?
I am anxious to hear from you - it is quite possible that we are cousins. Take care and keep in touch. Elizabeth
