I think you're talking about "Ponil." This former settlement was located near Cimarron NM and is likely within the boundaries of the Philmont Scout Ranch, owned by the Boy Scouts of America. You might want to try writing to BSA's national headquarters in Irving Texas to ask them if they have any information about Ponil's old sawmill, or if they have found the remains of a sawmill somewhere on or near the scout ranch.

Let me know whether or not that results in some leads. My husband's uncle was born in Cimarron and lived in Ponil. He may remember something useful, so I'll try to phone him or stop by and visit him to ask him a few things. Let me know what you would like to know.
