Edward McCarty's father was John McCarty, born near Ramsey, IL, 1840, to James and Lucinda Anderson McCarty. James was born in Ireland, around 1815; Lucinda, near Gallatin, TN, about 1818. John was wounded in the siege of Vicksburg.
Edward's mother was Henrietta Markhum, born in KY about 1842. John and Henrietta were married on Christmas, 1866, in Montgomery County, IL.
