Jim, thank you for your reply. In some states early birth recs are with the historical society. I was not sure about NM. I had done research about Blossburg and knew it was a short-lived community. There is a good book about ghost towns in NM. It is "Ghost Towns of New Mexico." I have most of the details before his birth and the time after he was married in IL...just cannot fill in the gap.
