I suspect that you will not be able to find a record of his birth. My suggestion is to call or write the Colfax County Courthouse, PO Box 159, Raton NM 87740 Phone: 505-445-5551
and ask them if they can help since you do have a date to work with.

Blossburg, 5 miles NW of Raton, was founded in 1881 and boomed until 1894 when a strike closed the mine. The town
never really recovered and eventually faded away. The site is now a ghost town.
